Organise tracks into folders
By the end your tracks will be organised into folders that make sense to you, and you’ll know which moves you can undo and which you can’t.
Before you start
- A few tracks on your home screen. Folders can hold tracks and other folders.

Make a folder
Press New folder, next to the Tracks heading. Type a name into Enter folder name and press Continue. Name it after something that won’t change, like an album, a client or a year. A folder called Current stops meaning anything by spring.
- You now see your new, empty folder at the top of your list.

Drag a track into it
On the web, drag a track onto a folder and drop it. A short message confirms the move. To create a folder and file the track in one go, drop the track onto the New folder button instead and type a name.

- A folder with no ⋮ menu, like the artist’s folder at the top here, was created by the label. You can’t change it from the App.

Move without dragging
Open the track’s … menu and choose Move. Pick where it should go from the list, then press Move here. Use this on a phone, or when the folder you want isn’t on screen. Folders move the same way.

Read the warning before a one-way move
Moving your own track into a label’s workspace gives the label ownership of it. Before it happens, the app warns you with Moving to workspace changes owner and tells you it can’t be undone. Read it carefully. Afterwards you can’t move the track back to Home.

Rename or delete a folder
Open the folder’s … menu and choose Rename folder or Delete folder. The app asks you to confirm before deleting. A folder a label created for an artist on its roster has no menu, so you can’t rename, move or delete it here.

- The same menu has Move folder, which moves the folder and everything in it.
What each kind of move means
- Into a folder
- Just filing. You can move it out again whenever you like, and ownership doesn’t change.
- Into a label
- A permanent transfer of ownership. The label owns the track afterwards, and you can’t move it back to Home.
- Into a restricted folder
- Limits who can open it. The app warns you that only the people the folder is shared with will see it. Moving a folder applies this to everything inside.
- A roster folder
- The folder a label creates for an artist. It has no menu, so nobody can rename, move or delete it in the App.
- Dragging
- Web only. On a phone, use Move in the … menu instead.
- Nesting
- Folders can hold other folders. Deep nesting is easy to create but slow to navigate, so two levels is usually enough.
Ways people use this
A folder per release rather than per stage
Album names still make sense in two years. Folders like "In progress" and "Done" need constant tidying and go out of date the moment you forget. Keep status on the track, not in where it’s filed.
Filing a pile of loose bounces
Drag the first one onto the New folder button and name the folder. It’s created with the track already inside, and you can drag the rest onto it.
Your label asks you to move a track to them
Read the warning first. Moving it changes who owns the track, and you can’t undo that in the App. If you’re not sure, share a link instead and talk to them first.
Tips
- Before you delete a folder, check what’s inside it and where those tracks will end up.
