Choose the task view that fits

By the end you know which of the three task views to reach for, and what each one can do that the others cannot.

2 min·3 steps·Updated 2026-09-07

Before you start

  • A workspace with a few tasks on the board.
Three views over the same tasks. The calendar shows only the dated ones.
  1. 1

Read the work as a list

Open Tasks and choose List. Tasks group under their status, and clicking the Priority or Due Date heading sorts by it. This is the only view that sorts.

    • You now see every task as a row, in the order you asked for.
  2. 2

Move the work along on the board

Choose Board. One column per status, and dragging a card to another column changes its status. This is the view to use when you are moving work rather than reading it.

    • You now see the work laid out by the stage it is at.
  3. 3

See the month on the calendar

Choose Calendar. Each task with a due date sits on its day, and dragging it to another day moves the due date. Tasks with no due date do not appear here at all, which is what makes an undated task a note rather than a deadline.

    • You now see the month with only the dated work on it.

What each view can do that the others cannot

List
Sorts. Click Priority or Due Date to order by it, and drag a row by its handle to reorder by hand inside a status group.
Board
Changes status by dragging a card between columns. It is the view Tasks opens on.
Calendar
Changes a due date by dragging a task onto another day, and shows only the tasks that have one.

Tips

  • The view you are on is part of the address, so a link you send opens on the same view for whoever you send it to.
