Create several tracks from your files

By the end you’ll have turned a batch of files into separate tracks in one go, each named after its file and filed in the folder you chose.

Home: where the batch starts, from a button or a drop.

Before you start

  • The files you want to turn into tracks, one file for each track. Any file type works.
  • The Vandall web app. Create multiple tracks is on the web today.
  1. 1

    Open Create multiple tracks

On Home, press Create multiple tracks, beside Create track. On the web you can instead drop several files onto the Drag a file here area. It asks how they should become tracks. Choose separate tracks, then press Import or Customize.

    • You now see the Create multiple tracks sheet, or the list of files you dropped.
    • Choosing 1 track at that prompt keeps all the files together in a single track instead.
  2. 2

    Select the files

Press Select files and pick everything you want in the picker, or drag the files onto the sheet on the web. Each file becomes its own track. Its name is the file’s name without the extension. Nothing is created until you press import.

    • You now see one row for each file, with its track name.
  3. 3

Check the names and the artist

Change any Track name you want to tidy. Type the Artist for all tracks, or set a different Artist on one row. Press Add more files to add to the batch, or the remove button on a row to drop that file.

    • You now see every row with the name and artist you want.
    • A name or artist that is too long stops the import and asks you to shorten it.
  4. 4

    Choose where the tracks go

Under Add to, press Change. Pick a folder, or press Create folder to make one for the batch. All the tracks are created there. If you opened the sheet from inside a folder, that folder is already chosen.

    • You now see the folder name beside Add to.
  5. 5

    Import the tracks

Press Import and the count of tracks. Vandall creates each track and adds its file. The sheet reads “tracks created” when it finishes. The files keep uploading in the background, so you can carry on working while they finish.

    • You now see each row moving through Creating and Uploading to Uploaded.
    • Press Customize instead to create the tracks first and open each one’s Details (artist, genre, description, credits) before you import.
  6. 6

Try again if a track failed

A row that failed says what went wrong: it could not create the track, save the name or add the file. Press Try … again. Only the failed tracks run again, and tracks that already went through are not made twice.

    • You now see the failed rows retrying while the finished ones stay done.

What each option does

Separate tracks
One new track for every file. This is what Create multiple tracks always does.
1 track
Only offered when you drop several files on the web. All of them go into one new track instead.
Import
Creates the tracks and starts the uploads without opening each track.
Customize
Creates the tracks first, so you can fill in each track’s details before importing.

Ways people use this

A folder of demos

Select all the demo files, set the artist once, choose the Demos folder and import. Twelve tracks appear in the folder, each named after its file, and your label can comment on any of them.

Tips

  • To add several files to a track you already have, open the track and use Upload on its Files tab instead.
