Managing Metadata
1. What is Metadata and Why is it Important?
- Metadata is the essential information tied to your song, helping with organization, credits, and ensuring your release is correctly documented.
- In Vandall, metadata includes:
- Song name & artist name
- Genre & subgenre (coming soon)
- Language & explicit content tags
- BPM & song key
- Credits for contributors
- Lyrics and additional notes
2. Uploading Your Track
- You can drag and drop your audio file directly into Vandall.
- Recommended format: Uncompressed, lossless WAV files for best quality.
- Once uploaded, you’ll be able to define all metadata fields before preparing the track for release.
3. Defining Basic Metadata
- Song Name: Enter the song title without adding featured artists or unnecessary details like the year.
- Artist Name: This should be the primary artist’s name.
- Genre Selection: Choose from officially recognized Billboard chart genres.
- Subgenres (Coming Soon): A future update will allow you to select a more specific genre.
4. Additional Metadata Options
- Mark as Instrumental: If the song has no lyrics, you can tag it as an instrumental.
- Language Selection: If your song has lyrics, select the primary language.
- Explicit Content: Mark whether your track contains explicit lyrics.
5. Adding Contributor Credits
- Currently, credits are limited to project members. This means only those in the project can be tagged with roles.
- We are working on improving metadata mapping to allow non-project members to be credited in the future.
- For now, you can use the description field to manually add external collaborators.
6. Song Details & Extra Fields
- BPM & Key: Enter the song's beats per minute and its musical key.
- Note: Flats and sharps (e.g., D# minor) are not yet supported in the dropdown but can be manually entered in the description field.
- Lyrics & Additional Notes: Use the description field to store extra information such as:
- Lyrics
- ISRC codes
- Alternate credits
- Production notes
7. Preparing for Release
- Once all metadata is properly filled in, you can finalize your song for release.
- Go to the Publish button at the top to begin the release preparation process.
